My Olympic Story

I think the Olympics are an event when the athletes or Olympians try to get a chance to win a medal. The Olympians or athletes also try their best and persist in the Olympic games to impress the whole world. The athletes or Olympians travel all around the world to compete. The Olympics are also about going there and having a go. I like it when the athletes or Olympians win medals.

Printmaking with our buddies

For the last two weeks room 9 and room 15 have been printmaking. We had to use sponges and choose a background colour. Next we used oval shaped sponges to make to make the body of our insects, cardboard to make the leg shapes and the end of a paintbrush to make the eyes. Our bug prints look amazing. Watch this space for photos of our prints. A big thank you to our buddies for helping us.

Gathering Data Through All Senses

Yesterday Ada and I went outside to take some photos of things we could use our senses for.We both took 2 photos each. I took a photo of an acorn and Ada took a photo of me smelling a plant. The senses are touch, sight, smell, taste and sound. We are learning about the Habit of Mind, gathering data through all senses.
Mackenzie
I was using my sense of sight to look at our new drop off bay.

I used my sense of smell to smell the plant. Ada you took a great photo using the camera.

Using our Senses

Yesterday Mackenzie and I went outside and used the camera to take pictures of things that we might use our senses for.Our senses are touch, sight, taste, smell, sound. We took photos of things you could touch, sight and smell. I took two and Mackenzie took two.We were doing this to be succsessful like the band Evermore.
Ada
I was using my sight and smell senses. You took a fantastic photo Mackenzie!

We couldn't see the acorn in our hand so we put it on the ground. Mrs Steedman thinks this is an amazing photo too.

The Olympic Rings

In Room 9 our Inquiry focus is about the Olympics. We didn't know what the rings meant and we thought alot of different things. We used Google to find information and we learnt that:

  • The rings represent the five continents that participate in the Olympics.
  • The continents are Asia, Europe, The Americas, Africa and Oceania.
  • At least one colour of the rings can be found in every countrie's flag that participate in the Olympics.

Our Surprise

When school started I walked into class and suddenly I saw a huge enormous Orca Whale sitting up on the top of my class room. I felt very excited then I looked up at the wall and I saw a green stingray. It was spectacular and I felt even  more excited. Mrs Steedman came in the room and said that our class is now called H20 Extreme!!! I felt very excited with that name.

Our Assembly Item

We had an assembly item two weeks ago. We chose the story called 'Peacock gets a job' because we thought that Peacock used persistence (one of the Habits of Mind) when he tried all the different jobs. We really enjoyed our performance except Mrs Steedman said we shouldn't have laughed so much! We are going to put the video of our performance on our Blog so that everyone can watch it.

WHO CAME TO VISIT?

Today we had Mr Frank Bunce (a former All Black) and people from The Westpac Rescue Helicopter and the Westpac bank visit our school. Mr Bunce answered questions about when he played rugby and also told us why the Westpac Rescue helicopter service is so important. They help alot of people and save alot of lives! What an important job they do! We even got to listen to one of the helicopter pilots and he told us what equipment they have in the helicopter and what some of the equipment is used for. We really enjoyed our special assembly and meeting our extra special guests! WOW!

This is a video of our recent Duffy assembly. Our seniors performed a Haka Powhiri to welcome our guests. Our guest speaker was Mr Henare O'Keefe.

My Trip To The Moon

When we were going to the moon we suddenly...flew into a meteor shower.  I saw a shooting star on the way out of  the  meteor shower. When we got to the moon I almost fell into a crater. There were cute little aliens on the moon. There was a race to the moon that is why we were going. At first I was last but when I got the hang of it I was first!

Our Purple Paintings

Our buddy class painting experience.

Our buddy class is Room 15. They came to visit us and it was Purple Day so they thought we might like to do finger painting with purple paint! We worked with our buddies and had lots of fun. Mrs Steedman thought the whole room was going to turn purple! Luckily it didn't. We enjoyed getting to know our buddies.

Our Adventure Day.

We went on an adventure here at school. I saw a butterfly. The butterfly was a Monarch butterfly. We saw lots of interesting things lying around the place. I could of showed Mrs Steedman but... it got away. I saw the butterfly when we were by the dark trees.

Our Bubbles.

We made bubble blowers using pipe cleaners. Then we went outside and blew bubbles. Some were big and floated up really high. We liked blowing bubbles but we didn't like it when they popped in our eyes.

Making Bees.

In Room 9 we listened to a story called 'Bertha and the Beeman' and we also had a poem that week called 'Buzzy Bee'. Mrs Steedman thought we would enjoy making bees out of twigs, paper, crayons and glue. We collected our body (twigs or a small stick) and then had to figure out how to turn this into a bee. It was quite tricky, but we kept persisting and we did it! Look at some of the bees we made. How do you think we did at making our wooden bees?
